Taking an idea from an inital thought to accomplished goal.
April 19th, 2008Hello All,
Many times people will say; they have a great idea; but that’s it, it stays as an idea. What makes an idea turn from a concept to accomplished goal???? True, our brains think of anywhere from a half a dozen to several hundred ideas a day but how do we take them to next step.
To ensure that we get all those important ideas;it’s a great idea to have a pen/pencil and a small notebook which you take around with you everywhere you go. Ideas; don’t care whether you are getting gasoline at a service station, waking up, going to sleep, eating breakfast, watching tv, or a multiude of other things that may or may not be the time your expecting that special pop of inspiration.
Many times; you will get an idea when you least suspect it and like some opportunities they don’t always knock a second time; so jot it down , when you get it. It doesn’t matter whether you are clear about the whole idea; brainstorming can always be done later to get the specifics of the goal you which to achieve and why you want it.
Once you have your inital idea on paper ask yourself three questions
1) What is the goal I want to achieve and write out about three or four sentences describing the end result
2) Why do you want to acheive this goal ???
3) How will it make you feel to achieve this goal???
4) What will happen if you don’t achieve this goal.
5) What skills do you have that will enable you to reach this goal?
6) What skills do you need to learn more about to achieve this goal?
7) What other people can help you achieve this goal?
Break the goal into small sub goals as we talked about before and list them.
9) What small step can you take everyday for the next wee/monthk to help you achieve your first subgoal
10) Then continue on with week/month for each subgoal respectively
11) Log in your idea book your progress each day
Some other things that have helped me and can help you too
1) Visualise yourself achieving the goal for about fiveminutes each morning before you wakeup and five minutes each night before you goto sleep
2) Realize that the goal won’t happen on it’s own; you need to follow the above steps and come up with a plan. Ideas need people to take action before they will become a reality.
3) Remember to stay positive and focussed on your goal; it’s not about who finishes first, but it is about who runs the race with engery and passion.
4)Celebrate your subgoals by rewarding yourself with some small treat or activity you normally don’t do.
Warmest, regards
