Break your Challenge into Small Manageable Parts

Have challenges or goals you want to accomplish but feel they are too grand?

Many times finishing a task or even starting one seems; like a whole chore itself; so what do you?

Great question???

  • Write out your task or goal in detail on a piece of paper
  • Next, break the goal or project into phases or small manageable parts
  • List out all the resources: people, monetary(money), skills needed to complete the goal or project.
  • Now, thing of the goal/project as many small goals that are mini mile stones to achieve the end result.
  • Next, list out all the tasks you can perform on each specific part
  • Identify, the additional resources you need to either acquire or purchase. Include fees for other professionals that have skill sets you don’t have and need assistance with.
  • Set a time line for completion of each phase
  • Implement a system to check whether your on track with your milestones and the total progress of the final result.

In short: Choose to look at your goals as small mini projects which then get assembled at the end to deliver your desired result.

Example: You want to build a comfortable office chair; but you have never built anything bigger then a birdhouse???? Hmmmmm…

Well, you start by looking at the total chair and its final result and breaking it into smaller pieces

  • Legs
  • Seat
  • Back
  • Support Bar
  • Cushion
  • Wheels

You would start by :

Identifying the resources:

  • Wood Steel, or Aluminum, Fabri, etc
  • Skills: building with Wood, Steel, Aluminum, etc
  • Cushion, Fabric
  • Wheels
  • Screws
  • Tools for cutting Wood/Metal/Aluminum, etc
  • Time Budget
  • Monetary(Money Budget)

Establish Time Line:

  • Set a time limit for each phase of the project
  • Set up a system to know if you are on task with the above time line

Break into Manageable Units or Subgoals:
Delegation:

  • if there are additional resources besides you; setup a method of contact and give them deadlines for each phase; or your project will not be finished on time.

Verify Phases Completed Correctly:

-Collect results from all phases and verify end result of each has been completed successfully.

Assemble Project:

-Take end result of each phase and assemble into final project.

-If a goal take the answer or research learned from each phase and apply them to yield the end goal

Celebrate: Remember to celebrate you and or your teams accomplishment.

Warmest, regards
